Clancy Pendergast joined Colorado in March 2026 as a senior defensive analyst working with the linebackers, bringing more than three decades of college and NFL coaching experience to Boulder.
Pendergast has coordinated defenses at USC, California and in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals. His 2013 USC defense ranked among the nation’s top 25 in several major categories, while his California units led the Pac-12 in total defense and pass defense during each of his first two seasons. His players at Cal included first-round NFL Draft pick Cameron Jordan and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Mychal Kendricks.
In Arizona, Pendergast helped guide the Cardinals to the NFC Championship and Super Bowl XLIII. He later coached NaVorro Bowman with the San Francisco 49ers during Bowman’s NFL-leading tackles season in 2015.
A graduate of the University of Arizona, Pendergast began his coaching career at Mississippi State before stops at USC, Oklahoma, Dallas and Cleveland. The Tucson alumnus has coached numerous Pro Bowl and all-conference defenders throughout his career.
