George Helow joined Colorado in 2024 as a senior defensive coach and was named defensive ends coach and defensive run game coordinator ahead of the 2025 season.
Helow brings extensive Power Four and SEC experience, with previous stops at Michigan, Maryland, Colorado State, Georgia, Florida State and Alabama. At Michigan, he coached the linebackers for a defense that ranked among the nation’s top 20 in total defense and top 10 in scoring defense. His players included All-Big Ten linebacker Josh Ross and Freshman All-American Junior Colson.
During four seasons at Colorado State, Helow coached safeties and outside linebackers. The Rams led the Mountain West and ranked seventh nationally in pass defense in 2019.
Helow has been part of two national championship staffs, serving at Alabama in 2012 and Florida State in 2013.
A native of Jacksonville in the Sunshine State, Helow played at Ole Miss and contributed to consecutive Cotton Bowl victories. He earned a degree in marketing from Ole Miss and a master’s degree in adult education from Georgia.
