Jason Phillips joined Colorado as wide receivers coach prior to the 2024 season and quickly oversaw one of the most productive receiving groups in program history.

In 2024, Phillips coached Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, who set a Colorado single-season record with 15 receiving touchdowns while adding 96 catches and 1,258 yards. He also helped LaJohntay Wester produce 74 receptions for 931 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Jimmy Horn Jr. added 441 receiving yards despite missing time with an injury. All three were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Phillips brought more than two decades of college and professional coaching experience to Boulder, including stops at Jackson State, Utah State, Oregon State, SMU, Baylor, Kansas and Houston.

A Crowley, Louisiana, native who later starred in the Bayou City, Phillips was a consensus All-American at Houston in 1988 after leading the nation in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. He later played 10 professional seasons in the NFL and CFL and was inducted into Houston’s Hall of Honor.
