Johnnie Mack was named Colorado’s running backs coach in February 2026 after serving as an offensive analyst with the position group during the 2025 season.
Mack previously coached at Southeastern University in his hometown of Lakeland, Florida, following stops at Hawai‘i, Houston Baptist, North Texas, East Central and SMU. At Hawai‘i, he helped develop All-Mountain West receivers Cedric Byrd and JoJo Ward as the Rainbow Warriors produced the first trio of 1,000-yard receivers in program history. The team also won the Hawai‘i Bowl and ranked among the national leaders in passing and total offense.
At North Texas, Mack worked with inside receivers and return specialists on a Conference USA West Division championship team.
A Polk County product, Mack played running back and kick returner at Texas Tech under Mike Leach. He set a school record for single-game kickoff return average and ranked among the Big 12 leaders in return average in 2003. Mack also helped Lakeland High School win a Florida state championship in 1999.
