Naeten Mitchell joined Colorado ahead of the 2026 season after three years at New Mexico State, where he emerged as one of Conference USA’s most productive defensive backs.
Mitchell appeared in 23 games with 12 starts for the Aggies, totaling 102 tackles, nine pass breakups, four forced fumbles and three interceptions. His breakout came in 2025, when he started all 12 games and led New Mexico State with 93 tackles while adding six pass breakups, three interceptions and four forced fumbles.
That production earned Mitchell second-team All-CUSA honors. His four forced fumbles led the conference and tied for fifth nationally, while he ranked among CUSA’s leaders in solo tackles, passes defended and interceptions. He also returned an interception for a touchdown.
The Central Texas product attended Temple High School before beginning his collegiate career at New Mexico State.
