Quency Wiggins joined Colorado in 2024 after beginning his college career at LSU, but his football story started much later than most.
The Baton Rouge native was primarily a basketball player until his junior year of high school. Wiggins has said a Kentucky coach told him he would offer him immediately if he played football, prompting him to learn the sport essentially from scratch. Within a remarkably short time, he became one of the nation’s most highly recruited defensive prospects and helped Madison Prep win its first state championship.
That rapid rise also made the transition to college difficult. Wiggins has spoken candidly about losing some confidence at LSU and wanting a coach who believed in his potential. He found that relationship with Deion Sanders at Colorado, crediting Coach Prime with reassuring and encouraging him.
For Wiggins, that belief became motivation: he has said he wants to keep working, improving and “climbing to the top.”
