Rodney Colton Jr. joined Colorado in 2026 after a four-year varsity career at Newnan High School in Georgia.
Colton built his reputation as a versatile defender capable of playing in space, rushing the passer and creating turnovers. He also brought a broader athletic background to Boulder after competing in both basketball and track and field during high school.
The Peach State product comes from a large family as one of six siblings and is the son of Veronica Mitchell. And despite being recruited nationally, Colton’s own description of himself is considerably simpler: he has called himself a “country boy,” a characterization that came up while discussing the culture shock of visiting Los Angeles during his recruitment.
That little detail fits nicely alongside a résumé built in Newnan, about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta, before his football journey carried him west to Boulder.
