Santana Hopper joined Colorado in 2026 after establishing himself as an all-conference defensive lineman at Appalachian State and Tulane.
The Shelby, North Carolina, native grew up in a championship football environment, helping his high school program win two state titles before beginning his college career at App State. His path eventually took him to New Orleans and then Boulder, but the biggest influence on Hopper’s football career arrived much earlier.
Hopper became a father while still in high school. He has said learning in 11th grade that someone else would depend on him immediately changed his approach to football, decision-making and life. His son remains his primary motivation.
That perspective is part of what Colorado’s coaches see in Hopper. Interior defensive line coach Dante Carter has praised the maturity and purpose he brings to the field, while Hopper describes adaptability as essential to navigating both football and life.
For Hopper, the opportunity at Colorado is another chance to prove himself while building something for his family.
