Trey Young joined Colorado in 2026 after beginning his college career at Saddleback College, not far from his hometown of San Juan Capistrano, California.
Long snapping was not always Young’s position. He has played football since he was four years old, growing up as a quarterback before transitioning to linebacker and eventually long snapper at San Juan Hills High School. He developed into a highly regarded specialist before playing his freshman season at Saddleback.
Young has described himself as someone who wants to be a leader and motivator within a team, while putting the same emphasis on academics that he does on football.
The Orange County product’s path from childhood quarterback to Power Four long snapper is a reminder of just how specialized football careers can become. What never changed, according to Young, was simply how much he enjoys being part of a football team.
