Tyler Martinez joined Colorado ahead of the 2026 season after building his college career entirely in his home state of New Mexico.
The Albuquerque native began at New Mexico Military Institute before transferring to New Mexico State, where he developed into an All-Conference USA linebacker and team-leading tackler. His 2025 season was cut short by an injury after four starts, an experience that reshaped the way Martinez views football.
Martinez called the injury the toughest period of his life but said it taught him not to take the opportunity to play for granted. That perspective has carried with him to Boulder, where he described his rapid recruitment by Colorado as feeling a little like “speed dating,” but said the fit quickly felt right.
The Land of Enchantment product also earned Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition during his time at New Mexico State.
