Orem (Orem, Utah) High star defensive back Will Rasmussen is still set on joining the Black-and-Gold after visiting Boulder last Saturday.
While the three-star prospect had seen Colorado before, officially visiting campus in May, this unofficial visit gave him his first look at a Folsom Field game day. The environment caught Rasmussen’s attention even though CU fell to then No. 12-ranked Texas Tech, 29-7.
“The visit was good,” Rasmussen said. “The energy was probably the thing that stood out to me the most; you could feel the energy in the stadium the whole game.”
As one of four 2027 CU commits at the contest, Rasmussen also said it was nice to see the others he hadn’t seen since his official visit.
And while the Buffs did lose, which likely didn’t leave a great impression on Rasmussen and others, the secondary played well despite facing several short fields in the second half, holding the Red Raiders to just 134 passing yards. Rasmussen also saw how defensive coordinator Chris Marve and the defensive coaches operate.
“I was just talking with my coaches about the plan they have for me,” Rasmussen said. “Seeing the way they coach, I feel good about my commitment still.”
Naturally, Rasmussen still feels CU will be his next school.
“My commitment to Colorado is strong,” Rasmussen said. “Ready to get up there.”
Business to handle
Before the 5-foot-10, 180-pound DB can get up to Boulder, however, he will have to wrap up his final high school season.
So far, Rasmussen and Orem Tigers are 6-2 and currently sit atop MaxPreps’ Utah Class 5A football rankings. Rasmussen has racked up 29 tackles (1.0 for a loss) and a pass deflection, working on his versatility.
“Senior season’s been good,” Rasmussen said. “They have me moving around in different spots on defense, which has been fun this year just to be on the field at multiple positions.”
Goal-wise, Rasmussen aims to be an All-State selection and help Orem win its second consecutive state championship.
“Looking good with those goals,” Rasmussen said. “It looks like we’re going into the playoffs [highly ranked], so that puts us in a good spot for state.”
