Cam Newton — no relation to the former NFL MVP — joined Colorado in 2026 after a prolific three-year run at Walnut Grove High School in Prosper, Texas. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound running back rushed for more than 2,000 yards in each of his final two seasons and finished with 5,118 yards and 82 touchdowns on the ground, plus nine scores as a receiver. A three-time team MVP, Newton capped his senior year with District MVP honors and a two-touchdown performance that earned him MVP honors at the Military Appreciation Bowl.
One of his defining prep moments came during Walnut Grove’s 2025 comeback win over Anna. With the Wildcats driving for the winning score, Newton repeated coach Tommy Allison’s daily message — “Be strong and courageous” — then powered into the end zone with 58 seconds remaining. The Lone Star State product has said he loves to compete, but he has also been quick to credit his parents, Taryn and Rick, for putting him in position to succeed.
