Nelson Williams joined Colorado in 2026 after following a family tradition at Chattanooga’s McCallie School.
More than three decades before Nelson suited up for the Blue Tornado, his father, also named Nelson Williams, was McCallie’s long snapper. The younger Williams followed in his footsteps for three seasons and developed his technique while studying Tennessee Titans long snapper Morgan Cox.
His connection to Colorado has another McCallie thread. Former teammate Elliot Arnold had already joined the Buffs, and Williams said Arnold was a significant reason he chose Boulder. He saw similarities between the culture Coach Prime was building at Colorado and the “Brotherhood” he experienced at McCallie.
And apparently the specialist has some serious accuracy: his high school coach said he could stand in punt formation and hit a pencil being held out as a target.
For someone playing one of football’s most precise jobs, that feels like a pretty good endorsement.
