2027 Cherokee Trail (Aurora, Colo.) wing Jai Jegede is navigating college recruitment despite missing varsity reps as a junior.
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound prospect transferred from Smoky Hill (Aurora, Colo.) last summer after being a productive piece on a top team in the state as an underclassman, forcing him to play junior varsity basketball at Cherokee Trail for the 2025-26 season.
“My high school journey has been very up and down,” Jegede told BuffStampede.com. “My freshman year we were a final four team, and my sophomore year I averaged nine points per game on the number two team in state. Then my junior year came, and I had to sit out due to the transfer rule.”
With the help of a productive AAU season with Colorado Collective’s Puma Pro16 squad, though, Jegede found himself in contact with college programs, including in-state Colorado.
This past summer, Jegede averaged 11 points and six rebounds per game. He consistently knocked down catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. And with the height and 6-foot-8 wingspan he can attribute to his 6-foot-8 father, Supo, a former New Mexico State hooper, Jegede showed high motor on the glass and defensive side of the ball.
“Shooting is definitely a big aspect in my game,” Jegede said. “I’d definitely say I am a sharpshooter. I shoot every day, so that's why I believe I excel at shooting the ball.
“My defense is definitely the most under the radar,” he continued. “I guard the best player on every team and love that end of the floor.”
While he has yet to earn an offer, he unofficially toured CU on July 24, alongside TruColorado 3SSB 2028 trio Darian Proctor, Montae Johnson and Kayden Patrick. Assistant coach Nate Tomlinson was the initial point of contact, and Jegede shared pictures on social media of himself with head coach Tad Boyle and assistant coach Danny Manning from the visit.
“The visit was great; it was great to meet all the coaches in person,” Jegede said. “I was amazed with how kind they were and the hospitality they gave.”
Holding a 4.2 GPA, Jegede mentioned that Colorado’s academics are intriguing to him, as well.
Beyond CU, he has a tour set with Division II California State East Bay and has interest from several others.
But before Jegede can climb a mountain or ride a wave in college, he hopes to lead Cherokee Trail through the Colorado 6A state playoffs and into the Denver Coliseum.
